Should I wait and see?
Taking the wait and see approach is outdated and puts the / your child at significant risk of missing the key window of development. It is better to intervene EARLY than risk further delays! Here are some reasons why you should not wait:
Critical learning phase
Decades of neuroscience and behavioural research illustrate why a child’s first five years of life are the most critical periods in their brain development. 80% of a child’s brain develops by age 3 and 90% by age 5! (Center on the Developing Child, The Foundations of Lifelong Health Are Built in Early Childhood, Harvard University). It is harder to make significant changes after 5 years of age.
Missed opportunities
Waiting can mean missing out on months or years when your child could be getting help that improves their communication, social skills, and more.
Persistent issues
Many issues that people think their children will grow out of actually don’t. For example, if your child has an atypical pattern or underlying medication condition.

How do I decide whether referral to onward specialist services e.g., Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and/or Early Intervention Services are needed?
If your child’s results show that they are developing more than 6 months behind their age range, it is recommended to consider additional support from professionals. You can contact our team and we will recommend the specialist needed based on your child’s assessment results.
